Friday Tractor

[Majorman]

Do not know whether it is common world wide, but here in Norfolk, a number of machines like tractors and cars are all given girl's names by their owners. Even if some have a boy's name, they are still referred to as 'she'.

My own tractors are known as Harriet (TE20), Henrietta (Fordson Major) and Dotty (Fordson Dexta). I also once owned one of these and she was always 'Alice'
Allis B

[timcasbolt]

Don't remember ever seeing steering like that on a B.

[jon f mn]

I only have one tractor with a name, that's my 400d and the name is Olson. That's because the used engine I got for it had Olson written on it. When I was growing up we had a couple, Lena was a dc we had and Fat Albert was a Moline.

[Bob Bancroft]

C

[showcrop]

The farmer that I worked for as a kid called his 960 Ford "Charlotte". I thought that it was the perfect name for her.

[russ1]

Bob is correct. It is a C.

[Leroy]

It is not a C but a late B as the late B's were adjustable tread width and all B's had the bench seat that was never used on the C. I do not know the year of changeover on the axles but sure someone on here can tell you. The orignal B was just a single row cultivating tractor but later could cultivate multiple rows. The ones that could cultivate multiple rows were at end of B production and not many out there as the CA took over being a bigger tractor with 4 speed tranny.

[jimmyjoe]

Only tractor I had a name for was a farmall 560, better half called it, THE TRACTOR FROM HELL.

[Nat]

Sorry Leroy but it is a C. A B could be ordered with either the wishbone front or the wide adjustable front. If ordered with the wide adjustable front it also had the bolt on rear wheels like the C had. The telling factor is distance fron the wheels to the fenders.

[Traditional Farmer]

Every C came with a bench seat CA came with a pan seat

[Bob Bancroft]

The C did indeed have a bench seat. You're thinking of the CA. The steering arm/gear also identifies this as a C, as well as the wider rear end.

[Bob Bancroft]

And now I'll say I'm sorry to you and Traditional as I was annoyed enough that I responded before reading all of the comments. So I just repeated what you already stated.

[treeman53]

These two are not pretty enough for girl names. The B is Otis, and the BR is Otto...

[Bill(Wis)]

Note the different steering mechanisms, plus other things.

This is a B

This is a C

[T.R.K.]

Well, here we call some of them by the seller's names. There's Bud, Buford, and Baxter.
