Fron Tires Rubbing

I had noticed a squesaking sound when I am turning the front wheels on my Ford 960. I finally took time to check it out. The cause is the tires are rubbing on the pedestal. The tires are 6.50-16. Are they too wide or do I have another problem?

Factory fronts were 600- 16. Ford 960's were some what hard on wheel bearings as it seems most tricycle tractors are. Joe

I have the same size tires on my 63 4000 and they don't rub - I also just replaced the wheel bearings - Why you asked? They were squeaking.

You could have a bent spindle if they're rubbing the pedestal.

Jack up the front end and give the tires a spin. If the bearings are shot, they will talk to you.

Grab the tires at the top and rock them in and out - Could be loose bearings and you may get by with repacking and tightening them properly.
