Front bushings

I replaced the front spindle bushings and now the spindles won’t fit back into the bushings. What is the best way or the way to ream the bushings so the spindles will fit? I used a bushing driver to put the bushings in and cleaned the bore with thinner and steel wool so they should not have been damaged installing them.

would you believe.. a bushing reamer....

many new bushings are slightly US to allow for spindle wear.

mic the diameters ID and OD and see how much it is. might be something you could hone out, vs cutting.

in any case.. as an idea.. here's what a model T ford bushing reamer looks like

You could use a brake cylinder hone. It is always good to measure. Also, check often with the actual part. I didn"t have to hone or ream when I did mine, but it did fit quite snug. Probably you just swedged up something of a bur driving the bushing in. Good luck.

I did mine for the first time this spring. A brake hone works slowly but well. Be sure to also pick up a bottle of cutting oil to keep that hone well lubricated. Picking up a dial caliper helps too.

as I specifically mentioned.. that reamer is for a model T.

you will need a reamer for the ID you are targeting.. mic it and see what you have. IE.. measure spindle od vs bushing ID

When I did king pins on cars and trucks the kit came with a bushing driver/reamer.Kit cost 3.50.I have reamers for 9n 2n 8n and 640 Fords.Ive used a bushing cutter since the 50s.No one seems to know what a bushing cutter is now.

people are used to new virgin bushing diameters, and spindle diameter of new on new parts.. they are not familiar with reaming a bushing to match a slightly worn shaft diamater to get some more life out of it vs replacing a aprt..

kinda sad.
