You are correct. little to no engine oil loss. Remember there are a couple bolts that come up from the bottom thru oil pan that must be removed to get front cover off

I have the I&T manual. Having checked all the easy stuff I only have about 25 psi on all cylinders wet. So I'm going into the engine one step at a time. PO died years before I got the tractor. So no way to know what he did. Check cam timing then pull head then pull engine.

One way to check cam & crank timing without opening up the engine or to check without gear timing marks is to observe the valves. Now on a flat head you would have to settle for observing the valves through the tappet covers, but this will work fine. Put your number 1 cylinder exactly on TDC of compression stroke. Using a hand crank, a wrench, the fan belt, whatever means possible, rock the engine forward and backward slightly each way from TDC while watching your valves. You may want to remove the spark plugs to make this easier. You also may need a helper to do this. If the cam and crank are timed together correctly, the valves on cylinder number 4 (which should both be closed) should be [b:34d33e9382]"on the rock",[/b:34d33e9382] meaning they will rock back and forth. In other words when rotating the engine slightly in one direction, one of the valves on cylinder 4 will just begin to open. When rotating the engine slightly in the other direction, the other valve on cylinder 4 will just begin to open. If this happens, your cam & crank are timed together correctly.

Not sure of the history on the tractor but if sitting for a while maybe rings took a set. Pull start it to get it going and run it for a while. You never know.

I just put my finger over the plug hole while helper rolled rear wheel in 4th gear. Rotor was also pointing at plug 1. Did this for all holes and checked valve clearance. I will try the on the rock method. Thanks Pulling didnt work. Today's compression was about 15psi for all. I'm sure I need a full overhaul. Somebody has had it apart. Missing pan
and fly wheel housing bolts. I will try to get a full over haul parts cost.
