front end loader

I have a 97 fordNH mod 1920 two wheel drive can anyone tell me about what it would cost me to put a front end loader on it, i would be using it on small place & just for odd jobs not a hard ever day user...thanks

I don't know what it would cost, but I flat out would not recomend it. If it was a 4WD I'd say it would be fine, but a loader on that tractor would be extremly traction limited... probably to the point that it couldn't get out of it's own way most of the time with nothing in the bucket.
Two wheel drive compacts and loaders just don't mix.

I have to disagree to a point. I think your tractor could handle a loader without a problem. New Holland even made one for it. Power steering makes it easier and 4wd would only make the tractor heavier in the front.

If you add rear weights or even a ballast box on the rear if your doing heavier work, it would make it just that much easier.

I have seen them on craigslist and ssb for around $500 & $1600-(new price of a chinese made if I rem corectly). I am not certain of the price of the westerndorf or new holland brands.

Like I said, power steering is the best with one, but they been puttin loaders on tractors without it for lots of years. With weights, maybe even chains, you can make up the difference that the 4wd would give and have a very decent working tractor.

Thanks for Info. the tires are loaded & have power steering would only be used for light duty anyway tractor only has 600 hours would rather buy loader than trade...Thanks

No amount of counterweight will replace 4WD on those tractors. They're nearly useless in 2WD without a loader, never mind with one. Powered front axles MAKE those tractors.

While Rod does make a good point that 2wd and loaders are certaintly not ideal.. you can still get alot of work out of them.

I use a ford 660 , 2wd, with a loader that is similar in weight and hp as your 1920 ( I also used to have a 1920 ).. I routinely move round hay bales in my pasture, and scoop dirt and move maneur.. etc. I would not want to use it in commercial applications.. but for a homeowner.. ANY loader beats a wheelbarrow and a shovel.

My 1920 was 4wd.. though I only use dit in 4wd 2 times.. and one of those times it got stuck. i had no loader on mine.

If you do get a loader.. don't get big cyls.. as the internal hyd pump will make it a slow lift/dump/curl. The smaller cyls will be a little weaker.. but faster. Again.. ok for homeowner.. not usefull for comercial. Compair that to my old ford 660 and 850 using stock 4gpm hyd pump.. etc.

A new loader was about a $3,500 premium on the 1910/1920 series as I recall. I think Woods makes one that will bolt right on that tractor. Without the 4wd front end, they are pretty challenged even with loaded tires in the rear, but still better than pushing a wheel barrow. A set of tire chains will also help a bunch. At least with a loader with full hydraulics, you can use it to push/pull yourself around if you need it.
