On todays subcompact tractors. 40hp and less. They all seem to have a quick release bucket. Are the buckets interchangeable between tractor makes?

Quick attach is an option on most loaders.
Many manufacturers have adopted a skid
steer quick attach. John Deere has their
own proprietary system. So no they are not
all interchangeable. Without knowing a
particular brand loader you have it's hard
to answer. Be advised having a quick
attach on a compact tractor takes away some
of the already limited lift capacity.

This is under 40 hp.

Don't think it's subcompact.
L3560. Around 35 hp
It has quick disconnect bucket.
This is 20 hp.
No quick disconnect.

Thus is a 43 hp kubota hydro.it didn't
come factory with a quick release I
contacted my local kubota dealer and he
ordered me one for around five hundred
bucks now I can use this grapple also a
round bale spear for 4x4 rounds best money
I ever spent

Short answer is if the loader uses "skid steer quick attach" (SSQA) then yes they are all interchangeable. but that would mainly be found on Compact versus Sub Compact.

40 HP is well into the compact range. Common size break between sub compact and compact is:

A subcompact tractor typically is 15 to 25 horsepower, while a compact tractor is typically 25 to 45 horsepower, by most definitions.

There are a number of different quick attach set-ups out there so I don't know that anyone can make a general statement that the buckets are all interchangeable. As others have posted, they will be interchangeable if they have the same quick attach type, so one needs to check that the bucket and tractor components match.

John Deere front bucket will not work on other models.
To my knowledge all other brands use the same bucket, even
bobcats.
No idea why JD has to be different.

That's easy to figure out. It's so they get more of the sales of attachments for their tractors.

Like all the answers bellow the flat face skid-steer is pretty much the industry standard. Kubota
has now moved it above the compact , our 60/90 hp set up is skid steer set up.

Its like JM said its a industry standard. Although in 2012 I brought a new B3000 Kubota but they did
not offer that on the small ones at that time. I have a Kubota designed one that locks in at the top
and then you slide a 1 inch pin in on each side on the bottom. It works ok as I have two different
buckets and a set of pallet forks for it that I change out allot. I wish I had the standard set
though especially if I trade this one off I will have to either get different buckets and forks too
or do a bunch of fabricating and welding again.

In a word,no.However,a lot are using an
industry standard,and more all the
time.But there are still a lot
ofoddballs out there that fit only
themselves.Simply put,you need to do
your own rescearch/leg work before you
purchase any thing.

John Deere is John Deere. But you now can get a skid steer plate On a JD. I have a large cutoff scissors . Will cut 8 trees or limbs. It has as skid steer plate thing the heavy duty one. My John Deere fit tight at the top. Just had to weld ears with pins at bottom. Now will work on either. Kinda like the 3 point thing. IH 2 point should have been the standard. Even AC snap coupler is easier than a 3 point. But easiest of all was a 1 pin. On a JD. M or MT.
