front end spline shaft alignment

We switching our Ford loader from a 4000SU to a
3910. Everything so far bolts up but the spline hub
doesn"t line up with the hole in the bolster by a
strong 1/4 inch. The castings look to be very
similar. Could the engine crankshafts distance be
different from a gas block to diesel. I was always
under the assumption that they were all the same.
Is there anything that can be done to get it into
alignment?
