front ends

Ford made a solid pedestal and one that was removable to adapt a wide front end. I have a 740 with a solid one that the gears are worn out and an extra wide one out of an 800 that seems to be tighter. My question is are they interchangable. If the answeris yes it would save me the time it would take to take them apart to compair thank in advance.

I don't have a lot of personal experience with row crop front ends, but from what I've read and observed, the 900 wide front will not go on your 740 with the solid pedestal unless you also have the lower chassis piece off the 900. If you do have the lower chassis part, then you can use either the 900 wide front or the later interchangeable narrow front.

I did once see photos of a solid pedestal 700 that had an aftermarket wide front that was specially designed to fit around the solid pedestal. I don't know the manufacturer name of that front end.

you can swap the entire pedistal .. ie.. swap the 2 piece pedistal for the 1 piece.

thus a 900 could have a 2 piece with wide front..e tc.

I have also seen aftermarket wide fronts for the 1 piece. i believe swartz made them. I lik kludgy looking.. but not bad.

Hi everyone, I am trying to follow this post; the posters question was will the 800 wide front end fit? I still don't know!
I personally couldn't tell an 800 from a 900 unless it was marked.

Brian is correct. You would not want to put a utility front end on a row crop tractor.
It would require a lot of changes to the steering, frame horns and everything else up front. Plus, with the drop rear axles you would look like a AA Fueled dragster. Let's see now; Big wide rears and some 13" single rib fronts?
Might look ok with the right paint.

I'm talking about just the gears inside not the entire front end I want to leave the 740 as is.are the gears the same?
