Front Mount Distributor Dampness

on a front mount distributor how long does it take for any dampness to get off the distributor cap?

About 1 minute if you use a hair dryer.

The front distributor was designed to be removed from the tractor for service. It has an offset tang that allows it to go back on correctly (unless you force it & break it).

If you're having moisture problems, replace all the gaskets; that should fix it. One under the coil & one under the cap plus the dust shield.

What Bruce says plus - is your radiator or water pump leaking? If so your dist may never be dry.

Mine usually crap out when I get carried away w/ the garden hose. A leaky radiator will do it as well.

Anti-freeze doesn't dry out of it very well, I have had to clean mine, when I put too much coolant in it.

If it is outside and it is raining - not very fast. Get a can of CRC "Lectramotive", pop the cap and spray. Read instructions. The stuff will 'temporarily' seal even a cracked cap and dry the gutz out.

Ford 5600: I solved the moisture problems in my front mount distributor by wiping the joint between the cap and the body with clear caulking compound before replacing the bail. You can't see it when it dries and the cap can still be removed easily.

welp i let it sit an hour in the hot sun and it fired right off. how do you tell if you have a bad water pump.

I spray the front mount dist. on my 2N with WD40, wait a few minutes and it cranks right up. Have done this many times.

f it don't pump water is one sign, the other is that it leaks water.........about it.
