Front pulley wobble

Previous response said loosen belt to alternator and check the pulley. If the pulley is tight, how do you determine if then key slot is wallowed
out? I would assume you would have to remove the pulley. How do determine if the pulley is just bent? I think you have to remove the front of
the tractor to get the pulley off. Any further words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks

There are a few possible causes for wobble:

10 The rivets holding the sheetmetal sheave to the hub of the OEM pully loosen allowing just the sheave to wobble

2) The sheet metal sheave gets bent but is still tight

3) The bolt holding the hub to the crankshaft loosens allowing the entire pulley to wobble.

Number 1 and 3 can be identified by loosening the fan belt and prying on the pulley. If the pulley is tight and it still exhibits runout with the engine running the problem is likely #2. You only need to worry about damage to the crankshaft or key if you find the problem is #3. In all cases you have to remove the pulley to replace it and at that point you can evaluate the condition of the crankshaft and key. If the pulley is loose on the crankshaft ignoring the problem can/will be a significantly expensive option.
