Front tire sizes

I need some new tires for a Massey Ferguson 30B with loader. The current front tires are 11L-16 10 ply. The operator's manual lists front tires as 7.50/8.00-16 6 ply, or 11L-15 8 ply. I'm confused. Are the 11 and the 7.50/8.00 the tread width? And the 15 and 16 the rim diameter? What does the L mean?

As I understand the numbers:

Rim diameter is the last number (15" or 16").

11 means the tire is approximately 11" overall width.

L means Low Profile.

7.50/8.00 will be approximately 8" overall width.

So with the current 11L-16 that means, unless my rims are non-stock, I have much wider tires than the rims are designed for. Is this hurting anything? I'm using the tractor in deep sand, so wider tires for flotation seems good to me.

They are working now aren't they? Narrow rims just make the tire rounder in the cross section, so they don't run as flat on the tread as they would if mounted on wider rims.

Highly unlikely you have 11L-16s on the narrow rims a 7.59-16 would be mounted on, they would look like donuts
11L-15 is same height as 7.50-16 but wider for better flotation, 11L-16 is a little more than a inch taller than 11L-15 but if you already have the wider 16 rims I wouldnt go to the expense of swapping out the tires and rims

Jim~ your advice is correct. First set of numbers is tire width. Second set is tire diameter. Best wishes. Wingnut
