front weight bracket ? for a m

ok I am getting ready to make a light weight front weight bracket similar to dennys style. my ? is on that style you hang weights on left and right side, but how far apart do you make the steel that the weights hang from? all my weights are down at my brothers I know how thick they are just how far apart do you make them ? thanks for any help, I hope you understand what I am saying?

I will post some pics of the front weight bracket this weekend.....when I get it all welded together....I gave my buddy all the measurements. all the parts will be getting cut out on a lazor table...
