Front Wheel Question

I have a "48 8N. Cactus & mesquite thorns are constantly causing me flats. Bummer.

I"m going to mount steel belted radials in the front. When I go to the junkyard to pick up some used rims, what should I tell the guy I"m looking for? I.e, what size wheel, or what"s a common vehicle they"ll interchange with?

Thanks for your help. This site is awesome!

Forget the radials. Just take the fronts to a GOOD forklift repair shop and have them solid rubber filled. They fill with a liquid/foam that solidifies to a minimally flexible material and you'll NEVER have to worry about another flat. EVER.
I have ALL of the small tires on my place done that way before I even bring them home. Wagons, handtrucks, wheelbarrows, riding mower, tractor fronts, etc. BEST dollars I've ever spent on my equipment.

another option is to boot the casings.. or use that roll in booting that bike tires do.

don't bother finding a 'car rim.. use your tractor rim.. 16" auto tires mount onthem just fine.. just keep the tube.. etc.

Hi James--

I had the same problem only my flats were from Hedge and Locust trees. I found a couple 12 ply tires on 16" wheels at the junk yard and made some adapters for the rims out of 3/16 plate . total cost $24

All great suggestions, guys. I really appreciate it.

It didn't occur to me run radials with tubes. That'd definitely be the cheapest fix. Although...that foam sounds like what I need. Comes down to what I can afford, just like everything else....;)

Thanks again for your time. I'll be up and runnin again in no time!

Cheers,
James
