Fuel a problem?

tired 8n

Member
Has anyone had any problems with the gas now being doped with ethanol? Maybe Im reaching for straws but after my latest tune-up the 52 8n I have is running rough after about ten minutes of use.

Am I crazy to think the ethanol spiked gas could have an affect on the carburator? Should I try an additive of some sort? Thanks guys

You're trying to blame something else when there is obviously something wrong with your tractor.

I posted a similar question on 5/20 and got a bunch of great replies (thanks all!) Search on ethanol. I think there are two (atleast) issues with ethanol gas - performance and long term problems like gumming up or damaging the fuel system internals.

some people may smirk, but I have to think there is some kind affect the ethanol would have, insigificant or not. Thanks for the comments

Pull your fuel tap from tank and
I bet your screen is missing
Mine disappeared on origional and the replacement
Some thing eats up the bonding compound

Some of the more experienced guys can help you better than I, but if it's 10 minutes it could be electrical and not fuel at all.
Try putting a jumper wire across the ignition switch and see if that helps.

Check your spark at the coil wire center of the cap and make sure you have a good blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more. Points set at 0.025 since it is a side mount. These old tractor where made to rn on the cheapest crap gas made so the new stuff is not the problem but weak spark can be

Thank you for the advice. I will follow and see what happens.Could spark plugs be the sole problem? If it started OK but then after running a few minutes went rough on me?

Only way it would be the plugs is if it is running so rich that it is fouling a plug or 2 out but not likely because if it was running that rich it would also be pouring out black smoke. 10 minutes or less run time and problems start it is either the condenser or the ignition switch 95% of the time
