Fuel bowl doesn't fit retainer fing

So I bought a new fuel filter bowl because previous owner had put a larger bowl on than stock and would not fit stock filter. Pulled the old one off went to installing new one and the new bowl is to big for the retainer ring? What gives? Help, I have a 1500D
Thanks

My guesses: The only place to get a new original-size element is a Yanmar dealer. To access them from a local parts shop, the previous owner replaced the bowl with one that takes a standard-size element. If so, take the previous element to a supplier for a duplicate. If you don't have it, bring the measurements or the present bowl, unless you can ask the previous owner.

I don't understand how a larger fuel bowl could NOT fit a stock filter. The only contact between the 2 should be if the filter is too long. A WIX/NAPA/O'riellys (3)3262 should work perfectly.

So what you're saying Norm is just put the smaller fuel filter in the larger bowl? Will it not come off inside the bowl due to pressure? If not sounds like a good solution.

Are you saying your old bowl was too long or to big in diameter? If the old ring would not fit the new bowl then it sounds like your old bowl was smaller in diameter? I know some Kubotas used a narrower & longer bowl/filter assembly. Maybe that is what a previous owner installed. None of those parts are interchangeable.

Any chance you could upload some pictures?

Aaron the old bowl is long and narrower than the one I ordered. Does what you said mean he changed out the retainer ring as well? If I order a new retainer ring that will fit the shorter filter and larger bowl correct? Sorry for any confusion, I also cleaned and reinstalled the old one had to plow snow today. Thx

Got it. While I have you. I replaced the left knuckle seal and it is holding fine but now oil seems to be coming out of the top of the unit??
Is there another seal on top I should replace? Or is it something else possibly? Ant thoughts appreciated

Yes. Not sure if you have to actually separate the knuckle or if you can just remove the steering arm and replace the seal from the top. I can't remember which way the seal goes in.
