Fuel Cap

We have a Ford 3600 3 cyl gas and the fuel cap is no good and the only one we can find specifies it is for diesel (vented). Would it make any difference to use the diesel cap? Thanks

Do NOT use a diesel cap.

New Holland had/has a replacement/safety update program for those gas caps, "Gasoline tractor fuel cap retrofit program 93/10-T2".

Check with a dealer if it is still in effect, and you MAY be able to get an updated cap free.

If NOT, gas cap part # is E5NN9N208DA, which will cost you between $40 and $60.

GOOGLE the part # for non-dealer sources, if needed.

Thanks Bob, What was wrong with the old caps that they brought this Retrofit Program out. Spoke to our dealer about it and he says the cap would cost us over $100. That is brutal!

Take the old gas cap, your model# and serial# to a older Ford/New Holland dealer near you to have it exchanged, if they do not know how to get reimbursed from New Holland tell them to send a wit to New Holland to ask them how to do the paperwork because New Holland still honors the safety program.

Hi;

Are you all talking about a vented or non vented gas fuel cap.

I recently bought new gas cap, "non vented" Then after getting the motor running, with 5 gl. in a 15 or 20 gl. tank.

Then I stopped motor, heard hissing sound at gas tank gauge sending unite opening, relieved gas cap presser and the gas bubbled up ( boiled) several times at the gas outlet at bottom of tank.

Could I drill a very small hole in top of cap to vent it ? Or do I need to buy a new vented cap. There is no air vent on top of gas tank.

Welcome to the Ford forum.
It is best to start a new thread to ask your questions and always include your tractor numbers if you know them. Is your tractor a 100 series or 1000 series, 3 or 4 cyl etc.?

Hi Oro, Sorry can't help you, trying to work this out ourselves. They do say the diesel caps are vented but they say they can't be used on the gas tractors, still don't know the reason ? ?

I am still trying to ID the tractor I am working on correctly. So many different types and tractor number ID's.

The one I am working on says FORD 4000, LCG. on the side. I don't know what the LCG stands for. After posting some pics of the tractor I am working on, other posters said it's a 801 with the the egg crate grill it has. Don't know if some one could have changed the complete grill and over motor cover.


As for gas caps, "Yesterdays Tractors" have some that vent for the "" 3600, 3600V ""

It belongs to apple/pair farmers, they only use the front loader a few times a year.

Oro,

LCG stands for "Low Center of Gravity". That appears to be a low center of gravity chassis variant of a 1961-1962 4 cylinder 4000 industrial, which would have a model number of 4031x and came with the 801/1801 egg crate style grill, so that grill is correct for that tractor. The 1961-1962 "Light Industrial" (4030x) also came with that style grill.

As 64frd4000ind said, that gas cap is for the later 3 cylinder models. The correct current part number for the gas cap for your 4 cylinder 4000 is 83961128, which you should be able to get at any New Holland dealer for around $30.00. If you don't have a local New Holland dealer or if yours tries to price gouge you, you can get one from partspring.com or messicks.com.

According the the thread in the link below from 2002 when the replacement program was introduced, it was for all tractors from 1939 to 1982, with one part number being used for 1939-1964 tractors and another part number for 1965-1982 tractors. So your 1977 tractor should be included. If your dealer is telling you that the program is still in place but your tractor isn't covered you should contact New Holland corporate to find out for sure.
