My filter froze with water in it and cracked the bulb. I got a new one and new filter. I think the old filter was in there with the hole in the filter down. Which looks wrong to me. It looks like the hole should go on the top. Which is the correct way.

Your way.

You know about the housing's O-ring, the two bleed screws, and the shut-off lever? You should not need any tools except for the screws. If the water passed through you might have to bleed the injection pump and even the injection nozzles.
 
I'm not sure what it would do upside down. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get any filtering. I would think it could restrict or cut off the fuel supply.
 
If you're not mechanically minded or unfamiliar with filter housings, you might not notice the small end-hole on the otherwise symmetrical filter with no writing on it. And the factory manuals for this model ignore the possibility of a novice not knowing which way to install it.

Wouldn't be surprised if this problem isn't rather common. Maybe Hoye would write "UP" on the hole-end of their stock.
 
Thanks for all the help guys! It was in there upside down which was causing some restriction and not much filtering. I just bought it that way and good to fix it now. I wondered because at the bottom of the bulb is a nipple sticking up and the filter fits perfctly sloppy on it. The valve has a nipple going down and with the o-ring in the filter it fits snuggly against the top. The nipple on the bottom of the bulb keeps it tight on the top. you guys rock.
 
John i just had the same exact thing with my 2210, had problems with it running removed old filter and it was in upside down as well seems to run alittle better now , i guess people dont look in the filter housing and see the nipple sticking down from the top just see the nipple in the fuel bowl Ron
