Yesterday's Tractor Forums
If it jumps from empty to full, you have a short to ground somewhere between the fuel gauge and the sender.

If it jumps from 1/4 to 3/8 tank, that's just the fuel sloshing around in the tank.
 
i had one do that it ended up being a bad sending unit.It was not making good contact internally due to wear
