I too have an Oliver S88 and I run the cheapest fuel I can find in it and have done so for decades with all my tractors

I know some people like to make contact with the fuel supplier at their local dragstrip. Others buy avgas at the airport. We used to have a gas station with a 100 octane pump, but I haven't checked there in a while.

Don't lose sight of the fact that regular gas makes more power than high octane.

I don't do pulls but I would use regular ethanol free in every thing but my car and van. I see no benefit to it except to the corn farmers. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

so by the time you run aroid town try to save few pennies , u burnt up your saving of 20 cents.

gasbuddy.com - while they screwed up their website a few years ago and really reduced its ease of use, it's still better than driving around town to find the best price.

At stock compression ratios, pump gas is what you want. Any thing that has been "modified" by stroking or high compression pistons will need special fuel. I have two modified pullers, I run 110 octane race gas because I have to. But running 110 octane race gas in a stock engine is counter productive and you would not see any improvement or increase in horsepower. Besides, 110 octane race gas is going for $25/gal.

For a stock engine you should use stock gasoline. Octane levels doesn’t change hp.

Compression levels change hp and higher octane levels allow you to use higher compression without causing premature ignition.

Find an old Sunoco Race Fuel can, and put regular gas in it. It'll have the same effect as actual race fuel in a tractor. That is, to psych out the competition...
