Fuel Pressure

What is the normal pressure for this gauge? Reading 2 PSI at idle, engine is 310TD. I just changed the fuel filter next to it and I also cleaned the screen in the sediment bowl which was covered in goo (algae?)
Now that screen is clean seems to run much better. The sediment bowl screen is a super fine mesh. Wondering if that is causing a restriction? ie. would it be better to remove the screen and rely on the primary filter? OR switch to a coarser screen?

How full is the tank? Some Oliver Waukesha engines use a supply pump, and some don't. Which one is yours? If the gauge is in the line coming from the tank, and tank is full that gauge reading is probably normal.

The gauge is between the filter (shown) and injection pump. Upstream of the filter is the cam driven pump (transfer pump?) and that is gravity fed by tank with sediment bowl.

Usually the gauge would show 3-5 PSI using the hand primer only, with engine off. What you have running is on the low side, but I'd see what it reads with tractor under a dyno load, if engine pulls OK I'd leave it be. If engine won't pull as it should either remove the supply pump completely, or replace it. There are lots of larger diesels that run fine with no supply pump, although Oliver made them both ways.

Have found many times junk gets in the sediment bowl neck so have learned to pull the sediment bowl off to check thatn too

If your tank has enough crap to plug the
screen,it be best to empty tank and remove n
flush it out,use a good fuel additive to prevent
algie, this ultra low sulpher fuel shields water
thus algie.and the new fuel dont lube well.i use
lucas fuel additive, engines run much smoother

I recently did the drill of cleaning the tank and lines on a 1650, and somehow seemed to get an air bubble in the fuelbowl or fuel line that was holding up the flow. Just bled everything again and it started moving again. Easier if you have a lift pump than just gravity for cleaning/bleeding, have an electric pump.
