Fuel prices overseas

I was a little surprised to see this. Diesel fuel for $1.20 U.S. dollars in Queensland, Australia? And, look at the price of LPG.

Is that price per American gallon(4 quarts), Imperial gallon(5 quarts) or liter? If it is Liter the price per American gallon would be around $4.00 a gallon. RN

Here in Ireland Petrol is around 1.15 euro a litre, 1.65 US dollars a litre!! diesel(for road use) is around 1.17 euro a litre

Well, actually there is. But, I goofed with the Australian figures - I always have a hard time thinking in metric. I've been reading about several places across the world where gas and diesel sells at the equivalent of 30 to 50 cents a gallon due to government subsidies.

Today, the price of gasoline in Iran is 10 U.S. cents per liter, i.e. it's 38 cents a U.S. gallon.

And the average fuel mileage for a vehicle in Iran is 17 liters per 100 KM - i.e. about 14 miles per gallon.

Hey, that sounds like the late 1960s here.

That being said, I'd rather live here in the U.S. and pay $20 per gallon.

I talked with a person who just got back from Africa, DRC, formerly Belgian Congo. Gasoline there is sold and priced by the liter, equivalent priced at $4.62 USD per gallon. In that country, average annual income per person is $100- $130 USD equivalent, depending on whose figures you accept. He told me that most people there just walk.

Suprise, suprise good olde England has got the dearest fuel, I think it"s about 80% tax over there. Petrol is about N.Z. $1.70 something a litre down here, Diesel about N.Z.$ 1.27 per litre. Did a pre delivery check on a new John Deere 8530 last week, the guy picked it up on Saturday, took it to the Shell filling station and $695 later the tank was full!

You know that we could leverage lower oil prices, by witholding the cheap food. By producing grain based fuel, we raise the price the Arabs must pay for food. If we shut down the food going to the OPEC nations altogather, we could watch oil prices fall. Most of you folks are farmers. How much corn can be grown per acre in sand. Let them enjoy a few petroleum breakfasts, until oil drops to $25 a barrel. Another advantage to my idea is that it is hard to plan Jihad against us on an empty stomach.

When we watch the news, we would get the idea that oil is the most important commodity on earth. The truth is that it isn't. We simply use alot of it. Food is the most important commodity. We happen to produce alot of that. Other than the irony in jacking up wheat prices everytime we hear rumors of a possible terror attack, until the Arab leaders are so afraid of starvation that mere association with a terror group is a capital offense over there, agriculture offers America a level playing field in negotiating much lower oil prices. Most of the nations that are holding America hostage with high oil prices, are completely unable to grow their own food. Why are the Arabs not all skin and bones until oil reaches $25 a barrel? I say that until either oil prices drop dramatically, or Arab scientist find a way to get nutritional value from sand, Americans are not charging nearly enough for grains and other food being sent overseas. Folks, it is time for their gravy train to stop for fuel!

Theres no savings when you buy fuel for 30 - 50 cents a gallon due to government subsidies. Where does the government get the money to subsidize oil? From everyone of us taxpayers. Fact of the matter is that we do not pay at the pumps all the costs of the fuel and to sum up the total costs including the externalities fuel costs are actually close to 4 times what we pay at the pumps. So to further subsidize to bring the prices at the pump down does nothing to our pocketbooks, or our motivation to find cheaper fuel sources.
