Fuel Pump Leaking

Hello Folks. Gasket under cap on top of the fuel pump of a 1970+or- 2400B Low Boy is leaking gasoline. Can anyone let me know what material I should use to cut a new gasket? Thanks to all.

The last fuel pump that I rebuilt, the diaphragm that operates the pump IS the gasket. My opinion is that you should get a rebuild kit.

It is a common parts kit. The Case dealer will have them. If you can wait they can be ordered cheaper on the internet.

Thanks Mongo59. I called the part a gasket but when I opened the pump I saw that Sharecrop was correct. It is the diagram I think I need. Thanks for the info Mongo59 I will follow up.

Replacing the diaphragm is the easy part.

Finding one that will hold up is not!

Be careful buying NOS parts. The old diaphragms were not made for use with ethanol blended gasoline. They will work, but just not for very long.

Getting one from the dealer, you might get one that is made for ethanol IF there is enough demand and turnover. Or it might be one that has been on the shelf for 20 years.

A good question to ask when buying, is it ethanol resistant?

Thank You Steve@Advance. I use 91 octane which I guess does not have ethanol. I am thinking of buying diaphragm material and cutting a new one. What is your opinion on that?

Have you opened it up yet?

What holds the mechanism where the diaphragm is sandwiched in?

Some are swedged together, a one time permanent assembly.

But if you can get it apart and back together, and have the punches to cut the bolt holes, and can find the material, go for it!

I guess every place is different on their gas. Around here all the surrounding counties are "emission controlled counties", which means no ethanol free gas is to be found unless you go to a marina, or the race track, maybe an airport, if they will even sell to the public. But any of those choices are going to be above and beyond ridiculous priced!

Supposedly there are some places in the surrounding counties that have it, but for me it would be a 100 mile round trip. Wish I could find it closer!
