fuel pump push rod

Been having trouble w/blowing diaphrams and gas going into oil pan. After removing the fuel pump to replace the diaphram I discovered I cannot remove the push rod. Normally I can pull it out w/no problem. It comes out about 1/4 to 1/2" and hits a wall like feeling. I turn it around same thing. Its not tight. Anybody ever had this problem?

sounds like the rod is mushroomed on the end. need to get another rod.
check camshaft essentric also.

Mac,Youve got a problem ive never heard,If you remove the oil pan you should be able to get to it.I think that pushrod goes through a peice of the block to hold it in place.Might take a grinder to clean up the end or you might have to cut it off

I have a new rod and diaphram from Rice. I put a new rod in about 3-years ago and the old slipped rite out as did the new one. If it was bent it would slowly tighten up but I put vice grip on and it feels like it is hitting th wall all around. When I pull hard it still turns 360 easily.

thats because the end is mushroomed as i said. need to remove pan and check out the problem. as suggested need to grind the mushroom off to get it out. cam essentric is probably buggard too. i have seen this before.
