I'm working on a '79 Buick V8. I think it's a 350 engine. How do I keep the pump rod from sliding down and preventing installation of the pump? I tried grease but it only slows the rod a little, not enough time to get the pump in place.
I seem to remember having the same problem on a '76 Chevy van 350 engine, but the rod was removeable so I could put grease on the top end. This rod hits the block and I don't think it will come out. Besides, there's not much room to work.
Thanks

If it is a Chevy 350, remove the bolt in the front of the block and put a longer one in and lightly snug the bolt. Don't forget to put the short bolt back before starting the engine. A true Buick 350 does not have a pushrod, only an eccentric.
