fuel shut off solenoid

1993 Ford/NH 7810s. Just got this tractor. The previous owner had the fuel shutoff solenoid unhooked and used a manual shutoff cable similar to older tractors like a 5000. We are putting it back to original. Removed the fuel shutoff solenoid. If you look at the bottom of the fuel shutoff solenoid it is just an empty hole back into the body. I'm guessing previous owner has removed parts from the solenoid???? Anybody able to explain what is going on?

I have zero experience with this tractor or solenoid, but I would
assume if the PO put in a manual shutoff they made the solenoid
a "hollow tube" so fuel would flow through it unrestricted.

The previous owner ripped the guts out of it because he did not want to pay NH's price for a new one. What's left is essentially nothing more than a plug.

Looking at the CNH parts pages there are two valves but neither has a price, which is usually indicative of the part being no longer available. Keep in mind that Ford bought the valve somewhere so an online search could turn-up one that at least APPEARS identical.

Thats one part I wouldnt put back original
Those valves cost over $100 and are known to fail, when they do they shut the fuel off leaving the tractor inoperable
The solenoid on my 3930 engine was gutted years ago and a cable was installed

My 2014 Kubota BX is designed the opposite. The fuel solenoid is normally open all of the time and there's a control circuit that applies power to the solenoid to close it when you shut off the key and then after several seconds the power is removed so that it opens again and is ready to run. It's called a time delay shutoff solenoid. The actual solenoid is external to the valve and connects to the valve via a bell crank so that you can simply move the bell crank by hand to shut it off if the time delay shutoff circuit might fail or if the fuse is blown.
