I have a 64 4000 gas and I have tried 3 lever type gas shut offs and 4 different screw types and they all leak I've got gas dripping from the carb one of the valves wouldn't seat and leaked at the tank Please HELP I'm stumped

All else fails, just use the tap as passive. Use a screw type, grind needle off, kb weld hop sealed.. Run brake like out, cut, compression union a brass valve in, continue to carb bowl.

Not beautiful but works.

Son if the taps you can take apart and oring them.. Some are just junk.

thanks sound guy I did that on a tractor that I traded it was ugly but it worked and junk is right to most valves I just hate to tear this thing back down I just got it back together after motor work and fresh paint. thanks again

Look on ebay for an original ford valve that looks like it hasnt been turned on and off 5000 times. They have a code on them but i cant remember what it is, it does say Bendix on it. Also I have used a compression valve that is put inline.

To prevent the valves from leaking at the tank you must use the correct O ring and you MUST NOT over tighten the bolts.

It is not necessary to remove the tank or sheet metal (or even the rocker arm cover) to change the fuel shut-off valve.

agree with Dean, I've done quite a few with everything in place.
The shutoff isn't that bad, but re-threading and [i:f545d0abdd]tightening[/i:f545d0abdd] the gas line into the valve will test your patience.....and your collection of wrenches.... :)
