Fuel strainer (More)

I have fuel to the carb now, but none in it. I broke the line loose which allowed the gas to flow into the strainer and to the carb, but the carb bowl isn't filling up. This is weird. something so simple can be so complicated!

If I understand correctly, you are saying that you get fuel flow if you loosen the line at the carburetor? And no fuel flow if the line is tight and the carb's float bowl is empty?

Remove the fitting at the carb - there should be a screen inside. That screen could be plugged.

Otherwise it sounds like the needle valve is stuck closed or the float is not adjusted correctly.

Thanks Jim, got it figured out. The float was stuck. A couple of light taps on the side of the bowl was all it took. Fired right up and would only run wide open..... Governor rods completely worn out.
Already have a vintage overhauled governor on the way. Hopefully can use it next week instead of working on it! LOL

Jim,

It could just be that the float needle is sticking - closed or on full Goose Bozo. It sounds like it's time to clean out that carb first - since random junk in the clockworks or sticky stuff at the float valve is unpredictable and really squirrelly. To make matters worse, it just doesn't 'somehow go away'. :~(

At the very least a little Sea Foam in the fuel might, maybe, help some. With a bit more effort, I, myself, would schedule a cleaning on the maintenance sheet before that governor work. Always fix one thing at a time - right?
