fuel tank fitting

i have a small amount of seepage coming from under the tank where the fitting for the bowl assemble scerws into the bottom of the tank, i'm planning on draining and removing the tank and checking out the fitting for tightness and seal, is there any kind of sealer i can use on the threads or should i just crank it down to prevent any further leak......thanks

Yep, you need a sealant because is a NPT thread going into the tank. Loctite gasket eliminator works. But don't put anything on the brass fuel line fittings.

Steel fuel line fittings?

Bruce is right - thread sealers like Permatex will work well. Aloso you might try teflon thread tape. This works well on MPT threads.

Some folks think this should not be used with gasoline. This prohibition stems from electric fuel pump manufacturers asking that it not be used on the suction side of their pumps - they doh't like to warranhty pumps that have sucked it into the impellers - but it surely does seal just finne with a gravity feed system of the likes used on Ford tractors.
