can you get the tank out without taking the hood all the way off? i haven't even looked to see if it is possible kinda dark right now. I did see 2 bolts on each corner of the gas tank holding it and i tried at one time to pick the hood off of it at one time either i didn't have all the bolts out or that sucker is just plain heavy. I work by myself let alone have a few bulging disc in my vertebrae so getting around is pretty hectic with having 2 in my neck and 1 in middle back doesn't feel very good ill say that.

the reason is i looked in the sediment bowl and the gas just didnt look right in color. Dont know if it was a reflection at the time or what but it surely didnt look like gas it had a yellow tint to it. So does the tank need to be cleaned? i just got a new carb, all new battery cables (1 gauge) seems how it is a 6 volt. just don't need any crud in there have elbow on carb from fuel steel carb line and a brand new sediment bowl assembly i bought today. the reason for all this is all the rigging that has been done on the poor girl. the sediment bowl has 2 90 degree and a straight so my new fuel line wont be long enough to reach new carb and im trying to do things right. i thank everyone helping me but im sure im just at the start of this tractor for some reason but she will be done and done the correct way.

duramax,The hood has 4 bolts @ the dash and 2 in front @ the doglegs.Drain all the gas out to make it lighter Then get someone to give you a hand.Or use a come along or hoist, block and tackle hooked to a rafter or tree limb.If you have to do it by yourself esp with a bad back. You maybe could get the tank out from under the hood by yourself with out taking the hood completely off.But why not take the hood off and make it easy on yourself, let alone trying to put it back with the hood still attached in the front.

OK gotcha didn't know if there was a way to do with out removing the hood but i guess that sucker is just plain heavy. thanks for the reply

Hi Duramax,

Take the steering wheel off first and remove the battery. Drain the gas. I use a block and tackle to get mine off. Call around to the radiator shops n your area and find one that will clean the tank for you. Ive had 3 done and at $35 each I think its a bargain!!. I also have the radiator cleaned /repaired while to the hood is off

I usually have to do everything myself,so I remove the 4 bolts from dog-legs to hood, then 4 bolts at dash. This enables me to take off just the hood-gas tank single handed [4 herniated discs in neck,3 in lower back, and one somewhere in the middle].It's not that bad, tank drained, truck with blanket in bed pulled up close. That way I don't have to fight the dog-legs,which on mine have 5 or 6 bolts on either side['41-9n].---lha

i hear ya my C-5,6 herniated T-2,-7 arthritis and bone spurring but something happened to lower in the L category and don't know yet but getting an MRI. I feel for ppl with the same condition because i know it hurts and if you haven't had it then they just don't understand it. thanks for the post greatly appreciated.
