My son and I went to a farm sale several weeks ago and purchased a Super C Farmall in need of some work. My son bought and old McCormick manure spreader for $ 20.00 and a disc and plow. We stopped at the little tractor shop outside of Dycusburg Ky.to drop off the SC for repairs. The Old fellow there said he could fix the spreader if we need it done reasonable. So we unloaded the SC and spreader and left.
The old fellow called Monday and said everything was done ready to go. I asked how much I owed him and he said it wasn't to bad and laughed!
When we got to the shop the SC looked better and had several items fixed and ran good. The spreader was repaired new floor brushed with oil, new cross sills, beaters repaired, side panels welded up, hitch straighten, and tires replaced with used truck tires. The bill came to $ 545.00 for both, which I thought was very reasonable. I thanked the man and we left for our 70 mile trip home.
On the way home we stopped at Mickey D's and as we were going in a man stopped us and asked if we would be interested in selling the spreader? I looked at my son and said well? The boy looked the man in the eye and said yes but it was $600.00 cash! The man asked if we would deliver to his farm about 10 miles away? The boy looked at me and I said yes! The man said follow me to my bank and I will get you the money! To the bank and on to his farm we went. The man thanked us and we headed home. Who says there is no free lunch any more!
