G rough running questions

Picked up a 48 G and got it running ok by just swapping one bad spark plug wire. Started ok, idled ok, but pretty rough at faster rpms. Replaced the carb (new, not rebuilt), new wires and new 3116 plugs. (Did not touch the mag) Now I have different issues. It will barely start. One side will fire once, then it will barely spin until it fires again once. It may do this for a bit and either die or all the sudden take off and idle normal. Once running, idle and fast idle seem fine. I can take it out and drive it, last night had it out driving for 30+ mins, got it up to temp and never missed a beat. With one catch, when trying to move from idle to anything faster it will almost act like it is flooding out. If you throttle up ever so slowly and slowly get it rolling in gear it will make it. If you throttle up too fast or put the clutch in too fast it will act like it cant get under itself and almost die. I have adjusted the carb over and over trying to get that cleared up with no luck. (It had this symptom on both carbs). I am not sure where to start focusing my attention. Part of me says carb but I have a hard time with that knowing both have the same symptoms and one is brand new. I mention not rebuilt as I know it has been discussed here many many times that rebuilt carbs may not have gotten cleaned properly. Wires? (Do I need to get a different/better brand?) Different plugs? Replace the mag (not sure a mag would show these symptoms?)

Thanks in advance for the help!

Turn the idle needle in till it starts to slow down then open it back up till it puffs a little black smoke at idle. Then a click or 2 back in. Try that before
swapping parts.

Just a follow up. The issues have all been resolved. I stopped by the auto parts store today and grabbed a compression tester to see how bad the valves may be. I also grabbed yet another set of auto lite 3116 plugs and as a cheap test a set of champion d21 plugs. Compression tested good on both sides so while I had the plugs out I swapped them with the champions. Night and day difference. Tractor started without a hiccup and did nothing but purr all the way from idle to load. No stalling, nothing. Literally a brand new tractor. Two new pairs of autolites and nothing but issues. I am a Champion believer now.

All I can say is they must be making Champion plugs better now than they
did. A & B tractors both gas, both same pistions installed by same person,
both delco distributors. As near alike as possible. Fuel out of same tank.
Dad driving one me the other. New champions installed in morning before
going to work, both hardly running at noon, cleaned and checked gap om
both, supper time same thing, Dark same thing. Both pulling same type of
implements side by side in same field, Dark same thing. Repeated every day
for a week. Got tired of it and went to TSC, they had their own brand of
plugs at that time, got set for both tractors and did not pull a plug out
for 8 years. Used Auto Lite after that no problems. They are setting side
by side in collectors collection after I had to give up farming. Has not
been a Champion on the place for the past 30 years. You would not expect
to get 14 sets of bad plugs in one week of all same number plug. Cannot
say if all the bad plugs came from same store or not but they came from
same store for both tractors at same time, But buying 28 new plugs and all
being bad gave you no faith in the brand, 2 tractor times 2 plugs each
times 7 days equals 28 plugs. Same as A C plugs. And my late father-in-
law delivered the Toledo, Ohio Blade paper to the man, cannot think of his
name now, that started the champion plug company
