G serial number help

Trying to figure out the year of a friend's G (styled).

the serial number is 26221

The way I see it - according to tractordata.com it's a 1948,

But according to the table on this site, it's a 1947

Anybody know which is right? Or maybe I'm just being stupid and looking at it wrong?

The John Deere Production Log indicates 8,976 "G"s were built from July 1947
through October, 1948.
1947-1948 was the year that Deere reverted to the November through October
scheme as opposed to the July thru June in practice since 1938.
This caused the 1948 model year to be 4 months longer, since starting with s/n 26000
in July, 1947. 26000 generally accepted to be the first battery box seat model.

Soooo... would you say it's a 47? if 47 started at 26000?

Carlyle's post that he agrees it'd be a 48 is now confusing me!

The 1948 G model year started in July, 1947.
There were several changes in that time period, such as the battery box seat,
Stamped steel frames and gasoline engines on A's and B's,
Elimination of JOHN DEERE letters on the rear axle housing, etc.
And the IRS wanted the model year end to be closer to the end of the fiscal year.

Oh - ok - I think I get it now.

I didn't realize they used actual "model years".

I thought it was strictly year of production.

So it's a 1948 model, even though it was probably built in 1947.

I have a "G" that was shipped on October 30, 1948. By the information given in this thread, it would seem this tractor would indeed be a 1948 model. However, the Two-Cylinder Club serial # reference chart suggests 1949 and the chart on this site suggests 1948. Glad I'm not the only one confused on the subject.

November thru October dates are a reference guide,
as are July through June.
Only occasionally do they fall on the Sunday midnight target;
The weekend closest to that mark becomes the year ending
and next year starting.
