G188d rebuild lacks power

Hey guys. Spent the winter rebuilding the g188d out of my case 350. New crank, connecting rods, sleeves and cylinders. The injection pump was also rebuilt by a shop. Threw new injectors in as well. Took it for a test drive around the property today. It really lacks power. Very noticeable going up hills in first gear and engine bogs hard. Another funny thing I noticed that the engine is having a hell of a time warming up. Spent 45 minutes driving around and it didnt get hotter than 140 degrees. Anyone have any ideas on whats going on?

make sure the fuel shut off lever is being fully moved to max open position, check timing, Does it smoke at all or all the time? as for cold coolant,, a bad thermostat maybe,, do you have a block heater plumbed into the system? I have seen the check ball in them go bad and they will circulate through the htr rather than being held by the thermostat and they run cold,, a few suggestions

What is the engine in? If injection pump is set for a 430 Case for example, it will seem anemic. The 530 has more pep as the injection pump max fuel setting is higher than the de-rated 430 is. Diesels also run much cooler at idle/light load use than gas engines do, make sure the thermostat is working right.

Sounds almost exactly like my 350 dozer after I rebuilt my engine and pump. In my case I had put my pump on aligned at top dead center instead of the 8 degrees Before tdc. Once I fixed that, it got better.

My thermostat was stuck open and the engine would not warm up until I replaced it. Now it gets up to right around 170-180 which is where my thermostat is supposed to open

So after a bunch of trial and error, I brought the injectors into the local shop, had them tested and one was bad. Replaced it and the machine finally fired up properly. It ran great and had lots of power. I put the backhoe attachment on which causes it to ride on a slight catwalk. I ended up finding a soft spot, and the machine did a serious catwalk. Followed by a complete loss of power again! Unreal. Anyone have any idea what would have caused this issue now? Since I live in a remote area and you pay for a premium for anything, I just ordered new injectors off Amazon and replaced them to eliminate one thing. It did not make a difference. Still lack power. Anyway something could have gone wrong in the injection pump when that catwalk happened ?

Couple more pieces of information. Heavy white smoke at idle. Reving the engine in neutral it sounds fine. As soon as I put it under load it sounds week. All signs are pointing towards injection pump. I just dont understand how the machine going on a heavy angle would affect the old Roosa master. It was also rebuilt last summer

So I figured before I go to carried away I would double check my fuel timing. Was I in for a surprise. When I pulled the valve cover I came across it this. What would cause this ?

The valve timing was off, the push rods pushed the rocker shaft up when the valves hit the pistons, even broke the shaft securing towers, phew, well at least now you know why it had no power, the timing gears need to be checked and lined up properly, the valves may be bent and will need checking.

Thanks for the feedback. That absolutely makes sense. I ran the machine for a good 4 hours prior to this failure, strange that it took so long.

Rotten luck, looking again at the picture I can see the engine was running as there is oil visible so it looks like something happened while it was running, if the timing was out when you tried to start it it would have done the damage then and would not have started, it is a possibility that one of the tappet screws unscrewed it self and the valve got pushed down too far, the piston hit it hence pushing the valve up and breaking the shaft support, if all the tappets are ok you will have to find the cause, you might find a shaft assembly from JC in one of the posts above, don't despair you will get it in the finish.
