I'm going to check the clutch om my G6 before I put it back together. I have the shaft nut off already, but, I'm not sure how to get the plate off. Does it twist off and is there a special tool needed? Thanks, Dan

Dan the quick and dirty way is to stick an 8 ft bar through the adjusting hole to the back side of the brass collar, remove grease tube, and pry foward and have someone hit the end of clutch shaft with a sledge hammer. The clutch shaft is tappered and it usually takes a sharp rap to knock it loose.

Hello Dan,
I used a large 2 jaw puller to remove mine. Loaded up tension, then hit it with hammer. Be careful when it turns loose, mine jumped forward about 6 feet when it released. If teeth are sharp on disc"s go ahead and replace. Call Charlie Biler for new disc"s. Good luck with her.

Mornin' Dan,
You can reach Charlie Biler at 724-628-7310. He is very helpful. And his store prices are cheaper than local dealers. You going to Meridian or West pulls?
Don

You were right on, Captain. Got my goofy neighbor to come over and hold the pry bar while I did the hammering. Just one little tap and here it came. Good call... the teeth are not pointed but there are a couple missing off one disc in different places. Will that hurt anything? Thanks, Dan

That wont hurt anything Dan, those teeth are probably missing from someone using a jaw puller on it in the past at one time.

Hello Dan,
Hope to make West, if'n nothing breaks tomorrow. Pull is ON for Golden. Tractor is loaded. Need to make sure everything is right for you at West, ha-ha. Hope to see you there.

Dan the best way to put it back together is to take the big driving gear out of the flywheel and put it over the the clutch discs. Get everything lined up and snap clutch over center and leave ring on discs. Bolt tractor back together, then go through adjusting hole and put bolts back in in the drive ring to flywheel.

Hey Captain I like your way, I always use the drive plate like you said but I put it back on the flywheel, I'll try your way the next time should be easier than trying to cog all the teeth and risking breaking one off. Thanx

Hi Capt. I already thought about using the driving gear like you said, but, I was going to put it back on the flywheel to join them. I sure like your way of going through the adjusting hole to couple it. It appears that to adjust the clutch, I pull the locking pin and twist the collar whichever way needed. Is that correct? Also, what is the proper adjustment? I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Thanks for all your help. Dan.

Right again, Capt. I left the drive gear on the clutch and coupled it to the flywheel from the inside and it worked great. Barnheater, I difinitely recommend this way. From the time I slid the clutch onto the shaft until I finished up bolting the drive gear to the flywheel was just over an hour and I was working by myself. It was so easy that way. The tolerances are so close that I wonder how anyone does it the other way. Thanks, Capt. You made my life much easier.

Interesting. I guess I"ve been doing it the hard way. Live and learn, and pay attention. Your right about breaking teeth off with puller. If"n it"s too small. Have to use the correct one for the job. Hammer and tapered shaft works good, most of the time. Heard Meridian got cancelled. West might, don"t know yet. Thanks for all the advice.
