Galion Roller weight

Hey, anybody have any experience or info regarding the weight of the typical municipal tow behind asphalt rollers? A guy has a TC 4-6R which says it's 4 to 6 ton roller according to what I can find out in sale ads. I believe the roller drums were filled with water. I'd like to buy the thing, but the weight is the issue for the cost of the haul for us. Any help appreciated.

My understanding that if the roller is rated "6 tons" it is 6 tons with ballast.

Also if it's a tow-behind, it's probably not an asphalt roller... Usually asphalt rollers are self-propelled.

I remember when I was a kid they used to repave the road past our house by the mix in place method. then they would spread sand on it, then pull the roller back and forth behind a dump truck.

There are a few rollers around that have transport wheels that can be lowered and the roller is towed instead of hauled from job to job

I wouldn't plan on a purchase with the thought of draining water from it for lighter weight hauling.

The ones I used were filled with used crankcase oil. I really doubt water would be used unless in the deep south or they sure would be tough to use in the winter with a lump of frozen water in them.

Should be a 4-6 ton with transport wheels on the sides and a folding pintle hitch, probably has a 4-cyl Continental flathead and tiller steering, and should have a water tank and drip system for asphalt- some earlier ones had a Wisconsin V4. As was said, 4 without ballast, 6 with- there were lots of models, 3-5's, up to 12 tons, two drum "tandems"and "3-leggers" with a center front steering drum and twin outside rears
