I would like to build a garden tractor pulling tractor ,I would like to use a c141 wheelhorse frame and transmission and buy a motor to turn the belt drive. can I make this combination competitive?. is the hydrostatic , hydraulic transmission strong enough? any one have any plans for a guy to start?

stock or modified?

at about 650 lbs a C141 is not a very heavy tractor to start with, and hydro's in general are not ideal for pulling. Anything can be done if you throw enough money at it... but the first thing you need to do is check the rules at any local pulling clubs.

Go to some pulls and make note which type of drives are winning.
Around here there might be one hydro shaft drive GT for every 200 geared shaft drive GT's pulling.
Anything with a belt in between engine and dirt is even less common.

Not uncommon to see IH built Cub Cadet gear drive chassis' being run as other brands.

Look up a website for MIDWEST SUPERCUB in Wilton, Iowa. By the name guess what brand garden tractor they make pulling parts for.

Park your old Hydro WheelHorse behind the shed.
I've seen MANY gear drive Cub Cadets dressed up as John Deare's because those guys can't stand to loose and money is no problem.

the IH Cubs work well because they have a proper fiber disc clutch... the drive shaft itself is actually a weak point and needs to be beefed up for pulling.

you can use a belt drive tranny like a Peerless 2300 but most gearbox garden tractors use a tension pulley against the drive belt acting as a clutch... and that doesnt work well... if you want to compete against those Cubs you need to find another tractor that uses a proper fiber disc clutch.

in Stock class... I'd go with an MTD 960.

Read Brian Millers tip for garden tractor pulling.
Visit some local pulls to see what they are doing. Before you get to far along. They may not hav a class your going to be competitive in. Also
You might be better to buy one already set up. You can throw a lot of money into that tractor and be come very frustrated .
Also plan getting beat , get over that
I work on traction first , not motor performance
