Where can I purchase a 5 gallon gas can with an old fashioned open spout? I don't want any of the safety features that are on the new cans.

Go find a nice new can with a standard sized opening and then throw away the factory spout and get a replacement from GasSpouts.com. You will then have a "new" old fashioned gas can. :-)

Eagle. I keep one on hand filled for the generator in case my wife needs to refill it so that she doesn't need to screw around with one of those spouts.

You can't overfill the type 1 can, leave it in the sun and expect to not get a rush of gasoline pouring out when you open the cover.

These cans work great, leave some room when filling, don't leave in the sun, monitor the funnel for contaminants and clean as needed.

I've heard people knock these, strongly disagree, used them for years, they work very well and no frills mechanism vs these awful safety cans they have now.

I can honestly say that I have spilled more gas trying to get the so called "safety cans" to work than all the other type and years put together.

I think the ones that the Gov't is protecting us from are against the law these days. You can go on Ebay, like I did, and buy a package of those snap in vents to convert them back. Have about 8 plastic cans I've done that to.

Here in northern Indiana you can get a good choice for under $5 at farm auctions. If you have no desire or time to attend an auction, there are usually folks around that you probably know that attend them. Just ask them to pick you up some.

Might talk to a painter. I use empty lacquer thinner cans. I bought a Jerry Can a number of years ago and never could get it not to leak around the spout so I quit using trying to use it.

+1 on Gasspouts.com I've got them on every one of my cans...The big mouth one is best for filling ZTR tanks... less time holding that can up 4' in the air

Our local "Orscheln's" farm stores have the 5 gallon cans, and they have the conversion spouts somewhere in the same area. I converted 2 of mine, and replaced the original broken spout on a 3rd can. In my opinion, the conversion spouts are better than the new, EPA spouts, but not as user friendly as the old spouts.

I use two 2.5 gal pesticide containers in a heavy duty box they are sold in. Triple rinse and carry a funnel. Don'e use spouts as you can pour faster and see what is happening better.
Check with a farmer friend . They all have dozens of plasti containers, all shapes and sizes.

The design of the safety spout in most cases can be altered into a regular spout in most case.

A drywall screw in the right spot makes a adequate vent when removed.

(quoted from post at 19:25:49 10/16/20) You can get a fast fill racing gasoline can at motorcycle shops. They have none of the stupid safety thingies.

Ah yes, any speed shop.

They are called "utility jug" wink wink.

ezpour.com has kits with the old style flexible spouts and vents to "fix" the new cans. Some states like New York don't allow them to be sold to NY residents. They must order the kit for water jugs.

My first red plastic gas can game from Canada, because the US did not approve of using plastic for gas cans.

Heck, I just use a gasketed metal roof screw for my vent plug and gutted out the mechanism in the spout. Although one of those "utility jugs" look like the way to go.

Tubeless tractor tire valve.

Remove the rubber gasket (gasoline eats them up). Remove the valve core. Fill the valve with solder.

Fuel can vent that does not wear out or leak.

I have four of the Eagle 5 gallon cans and they work great! Like you said do not overfill. I usually put 4.5 gallons in each and open slowly the first time I use them and have no problems.

I also keep a short gun cleaning rod with a swab on it hanging under the shed and use it to clean out the funnel before use.
