Gas cans a few weeks ago

We had a neighbor who used to send his wife to town to get ten gallons in a milk can. If she'd ever stopped quick or even turned a corner too fast, the can would have slid, the lid would have popped off and it would have turned in to a ten gallon fire ball. I don't know how he ever lived long enough to die of cancer or for her to die of whatever old age ailment took her.
Watching too many old CHiPS reruns on H&I TV eh?

It's not the liquid that burns, it's the vapor, and it needs to be at the correct air/vapor ratio, AND most importantly, it needs a spark. It's not normal for a vehicle to go down the road generating sparks. It would take a series of very specific unfortunate events all happening in the correct order to get a "fireball." 999,999 times out of a million, it would just result in spilled gas.

Has it occurred to anyone that we have regulations on flammable liquid containers because of empirical evidence? Which is to say a lot of folks had to be maimed and killed before the bureaucrats stepped in. Yeah, maybe the statistics say you can get away with something 99.9 percent of the time. But if you happen to fall into that 0.1 percent you could be looking at skin grafts, many weeks in a burn ward and Niki Lauda ears.

That would require some common sense and critical thinking, something lost on the gas can rebels ;)

That is the resaon for most safey regulations and warnings.

IMO, we need to stop saving those kind of people from themselves. ;)
Why, so the lawyers can make even more money? Were you or a loved one burned? I've already seen the commercials.

I hope you posted that "warning" in jest. I don't know anyone who is enough of a rule follower to respect or abide by something like that.
You never met my HS shop teacher. Steel Safety Cans and full PPE for something like gas. It was rumored he had red squares painted in the wall around the fire extinguishers in his house. He also had several fingers that were shorter than they were supposed to be.
