this may be a dumb question but i have a '48 8n and need a gas cap,how do i know if i need a vented or non vented gas cap? thanks in advance for your help

The tank has a vent hole in the top center.
I personally have a gauge cap that is not vented.
I made sure my tank vent hole is unobstructed.

If you can, go with the Gauge cap Greg mentioned.
You'll be glad you did. Nice to be able the check the level without sticking something down in the tank.

Can anyone tel me where they got the gas cap with the guage? A part number, model or length.
Thanks,
Bill

I got a vented gas cap with gage from Dennis Carpenter. works very well for me. Should have been an original equipment item.

Just buy a vented cap. It won't hurt a thing to have two vents. You can buy them at any auto parts store.
