This morning when I went to fill the gas tank on my 51 8n there was a lot of pressure or vacume when I removed the gas cap. It is not vented and I think it should be but not sure. Checked it site and they show two caps vented and non vented. not sure what to order. help please.

The tank is supposed to be vented but all too often the vent holes get plugged. Just buy the vented cap. Or drill a small hole in the one you have.

There's a bubble on the top of your gas tank that has a small hole for a vent in it,sometimes things like mud daubers or mice or something else plug the vent hole, pull the hood and check or drill a small hole in yours.

Cabinkiotio, I'm with R Geiger, pull the tank and clean out the vent, or do it the easy way and drill a small hole in the cap. Then put a small cotter key that just fits in the small hole and bend the legs on the underside of the cap.Now you have a vented cap!

the problem with cleaning the vent hole is that there are two holes in that bubble that do not line with each other. air pressure from the outside hole MAY unplug both, a lot easier to get a vented cap. I hate to remove the hood and tank.

Ford (New Holland) still has an active gas cap exchange program for tractors with early non-vented gas caps. You will need your original gas cap and the tractor model & serial number. The exchange program reference is Service Bulletin 1993/10-T2. I was able to exchange the cap on my Jubilee several years ago at a NH dealer in northern CO. Contact your local dealer. Some dealers are not responsive or helpful, so check around. Good luck.

Caution . . .
if using an electric drill, whose brushes might be throwing sparks, around any fuel vapors escaping from an uncapped tank.
