I just heard on the news that "they" are predicting that a barrel of oil will hit $100 soon...jumping prices at the pump .50 to .70 cents per gallon. Also heard the housing market is much worse then "they" predicted, also mortgage companies are loosing billions of dollars...I think there are some very hard times coming our way...

I work in the wood ind. and we supply OSB to the home building market. Input cost are up, board prices are down and orders are way down. 4 of our 5 mills are on short time now. We're the only plant running 24/7's in the co. Already know we'll get extra days off for Thanksgiving and Christmas and slack time in 08.

For every dollar that a home cost it turns 7 dollars in the community. Stop those 7 dollars and someone is out of a job soon. Then those out of a job stop spending and others are out of a job.

You can't cut taxes,go to war with increased spending, send millions of jobs overseas and lower interest rates at the same time. News media has reported for several years now that we had no inflation along with the gov. harping the same song. Anyone that's bought anything knows different. So clean out the spring, get those dried beans out of the garden before they ruin and get ready for some tight times. It's here for some and around the corner for others. Hang on.

It sure would be nice to see ethanol mandated in the gasoline, like 20% or so. Slowly ween us of that expensive Arab oil.
Hey! I got an idea why dont we go over to the arab countries and take the oil for free.

Portland, OR fuel prices up quite a bit recently. Joined Costco (membership discount big box) because fuel saving paid most of membership cost. Their prices regular 2.34 Feb 07, rose to 3.29 in May, fell to 2.56 in Aug, now up to 2.92. Majors 3.00 to 3.10, 3.15. Diesel at majors 3.50 and over; don"t know how much at truck stop; don"t drive out that far very often!!
Real estate people here all telling each other how good things are; dau, who stages houses and is interior decorator/consultant, sez slow-slow-slow.
Doesn"t really look all that rosy nationwide.
Fires in Cal may rescue OR-WA real estate, if enough well-heeled, independently wealthy or internet-based CA refugees decide to relocate north.

Naa that ethonal is garbage, it takes more energy to create it and it is horrible for injectors, and especially carbs. It will hurt farmers greatly.
Corn farmers will start out making a lot of money compared to now but soon more and more people will be growing corn. so as anybody knows corn will go down. ALSO if growing corn makes me a killing why would i bother with soy, or whatever else. Soon There will be only corn farms and hardly any lives stock or other food farms so we'lll have to start importing food.

now guys would you rather import oil from A rab pieces of garbage or import FOOD from dirty South American Countries???

Or we could just drill in Alaska, and the poles, Fuc k the Polar Bears

Unleaded gasoline $7.56 US gallon
white diesel $7.78 US gallon

Prices are at discount in supermarket (Walmart type stores).

Anyone want to adopt a nice couple from Wales who love tractors? We'll pay our own airfare over. LoL
David

If camel jockeys set oil prices as you say , then why is our own oil priced the same and why is it our own oil would stay high or higher even if we didn't import any. There's enough corruption to go around. The arabs are doing nothing any different than our own country. We tout the free enterprise system as the greatest ,and it is if left alone by our "abundant' government. Government subsidies being paid to the rich by the millions and anti-trust laws allready on the books that are being ignored by everybody. Anybody can and is being bought off and the country is going to hell in a handbasket. Our country's lack of leadership and concience will be our demise.

Tax revenues are at an all time high BECAUSE of the tax cuts. Borrowers who could not afford what they were buying has overheated the housing market for the last five years so now comes the correction with foreclosures and financial pain. Those in the housing industry should have been saving money during the gravy days just like farmers have to do in good times to ride out the bad

"Tax revenues are at an all time high BECAUSE of the tax cuts. "

Is it enough to pay for what we're(US gov.) spending? Is it paying the debt down? If interest rates had been higher would the housing market be where it is today?

$3.64 Canadian per US gallon for the 87 octane highway stuff. That would be pushing $4.00 US per US gallon.
Then again gasoline has not kept pace with price increases of some other commodities or wages since 1930.
Time to plant soy beans or Canola, get a press & squeeze out bio diesel. Then sell the left over mash for feed.
Someday farmers might eventually have the world by the short and curlies?

David in Wales, the gas prices are all over the charts. Des Monies, Iowa is about 2.60 and west edge of Chicago is 2.80 and in Chicago 3.00 and mosty up. Diesel is 3.11 and up in the cities. The Loonie is worth more than the dollar and the euro is off the charts. China is jumping on the US T bills. The ones who retired 20 years ago are in trouble. Still want to be a guest worker. Short for no papers, but have a full time job with NO paper work to be in the states. Oh that is only the south American types. See.

Ww have been using the 10% blend for over 25yrs and havent burnt anything up yet you have some very bad info also one of the by product is fed to milk cows and beef China wants to import more and it doesent take more energy to produce than gained. Why dont you write the ETHANOL CORP for up to date facts.

Why is it that whenever one of these "sky is falling" predictions come out people latch on to it as if it came straight from the lips of the almighty himself? Whether it be increasing fuel prices, global warming, chinese world domination, increased taxes or meteors hitting earth, people just seem to look forward to worrying about things. Even if these things come to pass I can't do anything about it so what good does it do to get my undies all bunched up about it? Enjoy life it isn't that bad.

Geesh dj ease up, I simply pasted on something I heard on the news...talk about somebody over reacting...take a gander into the mirror.

That is incorrect. It takes more energy to refine petroleum gas or diesel. For every 1 input in energy you get out the following:.8 on gas and diesel,1.67 ethanol and 3.8 biodiesel.

Record tax revenues stands on its own it can't control spending DUH!Still if individuals had exercised some personal restraint and judgement and only bought houses they could afford there would be no 'housing crisis' today or ever.In a free society individual restraint is the key.Doing stupid things and expecting the gov't to step in and 'save the day' ain't gonna work

Suits me there are many in the US that need a 'reality check'. Look at the absolute non sense that Americans throw money away on these days.If a person was born after the late 60's the have no idea what an economic recession is all about. The wheels of economics grind slow but they grind very fine.

A bag of layer pellets went from 7.50 to 9.35 in one week here.Ethanol is responsible for the high price of corn.Food prices are on the rise because of it.
