gas tank cleaning

I have a tractor that has been setting long enough for the gas to go bad and there is some debris in the tank. Has anyone found a good way to clean one in that condition?

off to the rad shop for a hot caustic boiling.
or could dump a gallon of carb cleaner in it and keep swishing it every so often. for a few hrs.

Best thing of all. Shut the valve to you carb. If you can remove the sentiment bowl and drain any left over. You get the drift. To clean the tank go buy several gallons of E-85 and pour it in. Stir with a stick now and then. That blasted stuff will take paint off so be careful!!!!!. I have used it in several tanks and old metal gas cans. FANTASTIC.

I second the motion to use some E-85 in it. It will be easy to try first, is fairly cheap, and is one heck of a solvent. Sheetz just started having around here.

Siphon it out with one of those $2.99 siphon transfers from your hardware. Steer it around to get in as far as you can. Siphon into gal milk jugs so that you can see what is good and what isn't.

Put some bolts/nuts or nails. And shake the crap out of it. Or like someone said strap it to a tractor tire and drive.... Make sure they all come out with the old nasty gas...
