I had this tractor rebuilt about 1000 hrs ago and now it seems there is a knock..is this the way they sound or could it be the hydraulic pump?

any new sounds should be investigated!!

the 3 cyl bang a lil louder than the 4's.. but as said.. if new.. check er out.

can you isolate it to a cyl by killing spark to individual cyl's.

They are noisy engines in general but as Soundguy says you'd better investigate any new sounds.
First thing I would do is remove the oil sending unit on the left side of the block and put a guage on it. I made up a guage on a short hose to get it in there easier. Oil pressure should read about 50 - 70 lbs and the needle will bounce rapidly about 10 - 15 psi.

I like that idea of the gauge on a hose.

i got one made up like that for hyds.. but hadn't thought about one for the crankcase.

neat idea.. consider it stolen.

A (new) grease gun hose with the appropriate coupling and adapters works slick.

I don't leave it on there mind you. I actually prefer an idiot light. But I do put a guage on one of these 3 cyl engines if I have done any work to it. Partly to check the sender/light and partly to get some inkling of the actual pressure. I don't know at what pressure the light comes on but I want to know if the oil is in the normal range.

and safe for some decent pressure too.. not to mention petrochemical safe.

Would guess 3 to 5 PSI. BUT that does not hold true to new chit,,,, they are either off are on and the gauge either indicates no OP (off) are mid way of the gauge (any OP)
