....and...I will add, with their mild valve spring pressure and mild cam lifts and mild rpm, they never needed lead anyway. Lead was cheap way to add " fake octane " to fuel to run higher comp. ratio without spark knock. Race / hp cars with high rpm and ultra high valve spring pressure for radical cams were the only ones that would ever "hammer" a valve seat in. If one thinks they need it for "lube" then they need a different oil.

From a comment years ago on this board I've always added a 2oz bottle of 2 cycle oil to each tank of gas- using it for a 1958 JD630

How did allfuel, propane and diesel engines ever survive without lead in the fuel ?
All lead ever did was gum up engines and make them wear out sooner. Look at the increase in engine life after leaded gasoline was banned. Now a gasser going 300,000 miles boringly common.

No argument with your main points, but most of the increase in gasser engine life in cars and light trucks is because of fuel injection. No more unburned fuel sucked in during engine shutdown and washing the oil down the cylinder walls.

Unnecessary.

If it was needed, I don't know what you'd add. Look at the MSDS for "lead substitute"... there's no lead in there. It's kerosene and a few solvents.

IF you MUST..go to any "Speed Shop"...Motorcycle or otherwise and buy all the 130 Octane ya want and YES, it does have TEL...in 5 Gallon cans...

Anybody remember the lead deposits under the rocker covers , intake valley and oil pan ?

I have to say lead never hurt an engine. Worked great for soft
valve stems. Over all with proper valve train like most all
machines have now lead is entirely unnecessary. Might be OK at
13:1 compression I don't know.

I just switched to marine fuel for my 38 A that is completely original. The marine fuel has no ethanol in it. I also add Lucas fuel additive to the gas which is suppose to also be a replacement for lead additives. I could not believe the difference in how the tractor started and ran.
