gear oil

I have a question about gear oil. At work we use Shell Omala industrial gear oil in 150, 220, and 320 viscosities. What is the difference between this oil and an automotive 80W90 or 85W140 other than it is not a multi grade? We put this oil into gear boxes which are just meshing gears and bearings. Any reason that I cant use this oil in the rear of my tractor? I can get a decent price through work.

Way to thick, there are big differences in the viscosities.

Thats a different unit of measure, thye can be converted. The ISO 150/220 would be very adequate.

the 220 is a 50 wt oil

Aside from viscosity, much more important are the specific additives in the oil, designed for specific purposes & intended use.
