Geared sarter

I have a 9, 2 and 8n tractors. The 2n needed a ring gear and I ended up putting a geared starter and it and it worked like that without issues. We moved and I had to park it for a couple years.
with those geared starters there was a gotcha as it has seperate terminals for the solenoid and starter motor. There was instructions i dont think I followed, and I just put a jumper on it. worked for years like that for some reason its not working now, after storing it. if the starter motor is running the bendix wont come out. I have it on the bench now everything is clean but I need some way to energize the bendix first then the starter. Any ideas how they made these work?

Well I cleaned it up and replaced the jumper wire and terminals..I used a heavier wire. I put the old jumper on and it works now. The wire is too small and must be just enough resistance to pop out the bendix before the starter turns...complete fluke. So the little wire is carrying the current for the starter motor. Its probably a good thing this 2n always started with just a bump.
