Gelled fuel

I'm well aware of the side effects of Old men cold syndrome, male shrinkage.
Hard to get the horse out of the barn door. I put a halter on my horse to pull him out the door. :D Prevents accidents.
I ordered bigger waders.
I don't plan to do all the work at once and have someone on the deck to help getting tools and supplies.

You might want a pair of those super long sleeved waterproof.....cow.... gloves too................

Shivers just thinking about it.

At least the gators will be mostly dormant!!

I hope

no surprise that #2 summer diesel gels or waxes with paraffin in cold weather . Then there is also the problem of frozen water plugging filters.

I've been running Duramax for about 18 years and only had fuel gell once or twice in upstate NY. However I use treatment regularly.

It was 4* when I started it this morning, not plugged in. It was 1* during the night.

It was zero yesterday when I started my Dodge/Cummins. I buy diesel from Wawa or Royal Farms depending on which is cheaper. No additives to the fuel, and I use 15-40 oil. I think the engine turned over about 3 or 4 times before it started.

I treat my fuel with Howes year round and try not to run my old 2000 power stroke when it get's real cold, but I assumed the newer trucks had fuel line and filter heaters. Back in the day my 6.9 had a spin on filter, so I put a wrap around heater on that
Don't use anything for treatment. Buy 99 percent of my fuel for my 7.3 from a local supplier that treats their fuel well. Your 2000 power stroke should have a fuel heater in the bottom of the filter bowl. My 97 does.

It was -15 in western Pa Wednesday morning; I had the block heater plugged in overnight. 2013 Ram Cummins started right up and ran fine all day. I have never used fuel treatment in this truck and have never had fuel issues (at least not yet).

I'm surprised it gelled at 0 degrees if it was #1. Maybe you had some water from the bottom of the pump. When in doubt put in power service.

Number 1 diesel is generally not sold at gas stations around here. Very few places carry K-1 kerosene, either. The only time I've run across a #1 pump was driving through Nebraska.

When home I've never needed to treat fuel .Then I buy from a local distributor with no problems over the last 25 years or so. He has fuel already blended. I do change fuel filters in fall in most cases so they are clean and free of problems with water or junk. Buying clean fuel and keeping it clean goes a long way towards not having fuel problems also.

And why should it not be summer fuel ????
It made it out the pump into your truck so it is now your problem.
If every station sold fuel for the conditions there would be no need for the parts store to stock fuel treatment.
Because fuel suppliers are supposed to start switching to a winter blend around October-November, and they definitely switch because if they didn't, the majority of diesel powered vehicles would be sitting dead in the middle of the road the minute it got into the lower 20's. It's not dumb luck that they don't, it's physics that they would.

I agree caterpillar guy. I changed fuel filters every fall.

I just changed the fuel filter a couple of months ago. Actually, the Chevy has a fuel filter life indicator, but I try to change out the filter in the fall regardless.

I start treating my fuel on Monday after thanksgiving. And the gel temperature is 32 degrees, any time below that it can gel up. Don’t tell me I am wrong look it up.

We're heading down there in about a week; hopefully it will be thawed out by then. My BIL is freezing in Daytona. He rents out his condo and lives in his travel trailer during the winter. He hates to buy propane!

Have you started on the Dock Project?

I can appreciate that. Broken pipes were an annual event at my NC beach cottage when I lived there.
