Generator Motors Wrong Direction

On a recent issue troubleshooting a charging issue I had a spare generator on the shelf that I believe I rebuilt several years ago. I put it on the tractor, polorized it, and started the tractor. I was getting no charge out of it. Polorized with the key off again and tried a second time, no charge. I pulled it off and tried to motor it and it motored fine, except the pulley was rotating counter clockwise and the other generator spun clockwise.

Anyone ever see this before?

Yes. If, relative to the way it was manufactured, you swap field connections such that current is flowing thru fields opposite to the way it was mfgd, you can reverse rotation. If, as done when reversing battery polarity, you are reversing current direction in BOTH field and armature, then it will not reverse rotation. Reversing rotation requires wiring change inside the generator.
