generator not charging

ford 2000

After putting everything back together finally check to see what the generator was putting out. Found out it was not charging. Do I need to do anything special since it has been sitting for some time?? 1968 2000 3 cyl gas.

polerize it.

jump bat to filed if it is the oem lucas b-circuit gen.

then start her up and get over 1k rpm.. see what ya got.

if she don't charge, jumper again and see if that gets ya going.. if so, reg is likely toast.

the lucas regs are a tad junky.. the gennies are decent.. though not as robust IMHO as a ford genny.

sometimes you can pry the old regs apart and clean the sticky ponts.. or you can buy a new one. I've found some aftermarket regs that are cheaper and work better.

( 12v diesel reg for a ford 01 series will work.. just got to hook it up with some creative wireing to make the dash lamp work.. but no big deal.. ).. keep mindfull about load.. lucas gennies don't like over 20a.. whereas that ford reg will likely not charge limit to 25a.. etc.

take a hammer and hit toward the back of the gen firmly, to knock loose the brushes while running at medium speed.

if that doesnt do it.. disconnect the battery, pull cover off voltreg and take a wooden emory board from your wife and clean the contact closes to the right side of the tractor as it will carbon up sometimes.

thats the easy stuff..

then you will need to start testing if that doesnt do it...
