Generator Question

Who makes the Cummins Onan engine.I am thinking about the 13kw model not that I need
that much power it is the smallest kw that comes with a twin cylinder engine. Also what
does everyone think of the Generac brand in the same model? Thanks for your time and
knowledge. Neil

I do not know who makes the engine, it has changed throughout time. I think you are making a prudent decision on the twin. I just scrapped a Generac, their service is atrocious, replaced it with 20KW Kohler.

Which model are you talking about with Onan. They seem to change year by year.

I would not go near a Genajunk unit. They seem to have a motto.
We got your money. Now go away.I have fifty years with generators. You could not pay me enough to take one of their units.

The 13 Kw will not be too much power. For a case of too much power you could share it with a neighbor.
If you use it wisely you can really enjoy it when the grid power goes off. Many people make the mistake of buying too little of a generator. It is nice when you have enough power in the winter to have heat and the summers with A/C are much more tolerable. These are usually above and beyond the power requirements for the basic necessities of lights and such. And of course be sure to use a transfer switch instead of the clothes dryer plug!

I have a 20 Kw 4 cylinder Ford powered Onan running on natural gas and it is nice to have enough power and the natural gas is nice so that you don't have to refuel every few hours. If you have an all electric house you need about 30 Kw to power it all.

Trust Billy Shafer's words on Generators and the related things for them. He is the go-to person for generator questions and answers, but don't get mad when he tells you something you don't want to hear about your set because he tells it like it is. He has probably forgotten more than most folk will ever learn about generators and especially Onan ones.

he is the generator

Billy Shafer you asked what model I was thinking about it is model C13N6H I hope that is the correct number.

Lots of other brands that are better than a Generac. Come to think about it just a little maybe all of the others are better than a Generac/generic/GenaJunk/etc. After a fairly extensive search about 1 1/2 years ago we settled on a Champion 14 KW unit on propane. We have been well satisfied to date.

When we decided to install a back up gen set at our older fire station, we looked at several, the electrician that normally does our work recommended the Kohler, for reliability and service. We put in a 20KW, just to operate the bay doors and crew quarters, because we have natural gas heat and water, but they make them as small as 8kw.
